The Art and Books of Maurice Sendak

Saturday, September 13, 2008.

Maurice Sendak exhibitMark was in Philadelphia last weekend to attend a conference called PodCamp Philly. The sessions focused on social media and podcasting.

After delivering a session, Mark was approached by Melissa Thiessen who told him about an exhibit of art and children’s books by Maurice Sendak.

So, on the Sunday, Mark and his three new friends piled into a car and hustled out to the Rosenbach Museum and Library where they raced through the exhibit in thirty-minutes during a break before rushing back in time to participate in a panel discussion.

This episode features a discussion among four people, connected by a love of children’s books, sharing what they learned and what they love most about Maurice Sendak and his books. Which just goes to show that, like pop culture discussions, children’s book discussions can take place anywhere; even in cars.

Conversation participants:

Also on this edition, our listener hotline takes a call from Knoxville, Tennessee about the book Monster Mama (written by Liz Rosenberg and illustrated by Stephen Gammell). Thanks for calling!

Listener Submitted Reviews #19

Saturday, March 22, 2008.

One of the many things we enjoy about producing Just One More Book!! is receiving listener feedback and book reviews. We’ve heard from children, parents, and podcasters… and on a few occasions we’ve even accosted people to tell us about their favourite children’s books and fond memories of them — whether from their own childhood, with their own children or others. Everyone we’ve spoken to has had a great story to tell about children’s books.

It’s easy to share the stories about your favourite children’s books. We have voice feedback number and all you have to do is leave us a message and we’ll share your submission with the Just One More Book community. Call 206-350-6487 and record your review after the tone in the same way you’d leave a message on someone’s answering machine.

This listener submitted review comes from Kevin Hodgson from Kevin’s Meandering Mind blog. Kevin is a familiar name here. This is his third submission – proving just how easy it is to be a part of our show.

This time, Kevin reviews Mole Music (by David McPhail).

We’d love to hear your thoughts on a favourite children’s book. Send your MP3 recorded or type-written review in email to justonemorebook@gmail.com, or phone it in to our listener feedback line (206-350-6487).
