When I read this book almost two years ago I cried. I cried not because I was sad, but because I saw the beauty in being human, being able to feel rich emotions and such depth of love for people close to me.

I cried because I know it’s a deep valley that I’ll find myself in someday.

I cried because I read a beautiful perfect book.

Thank you for sharing this book, hearing your podcast makes those same feelings swell up once more. Again, it is beautiful to feel, even if the feeling is sadness.

It was very helpful to know that Lucy and Bayla didn’t see the sadness in the same way we adults see it. Like Andrea, I have a really hard time reading this book. When I read it with my reviewer’s hat, I see it as a beautiful contribution to children’s literature. When I read it at mom, I struggle with the tone and the theme. Maybe it’s time to just take the leap!
