Neither wind nor rain nor the dog-catchers of Quebec can keep the unofficial mascot of the America Railway Mail Service from crisscrossing the continent and, eventually, the globe in this surprising but true tale of a nineteenth century Littlest Hobo.

What is it about dog books? My daughter will read (or listen to) just about anything if it has a dog in it. This one is our favorite of the Owney books. The real (stuffed) Owney is definitely worth seeing, too! He’s at the Postal Museum just across the street from Union Station in DC. I was worried that the kids would find him a little creepy, but they were fascinated. Thanks for the review!

Hi Mark and Andrea,
This is a great recommendation. It reminds me a lot of “Flat Stanley” – a project I think for 3rd graders where they send this character via the mail all over the world – it could be a fun way to talk to smaller kids about geography…
hmmm…
Thanks for keeping so much good stuff coming!

Wow! I had know idea that a dog could become a mascot for the postal service. What a fun story!
