They say comparison is the source of all suffering. Yet, while we can usually resist comparing one child to another, most of us are guilty of the occasional contrast between our children and our former — possibly imagined — selves. This hilarious and delightfully ambiguous book allows us to chew on and chuckle at this perennial parental ploy.

Interview with Christine Tripp

Monday, November 26, 2007.

Christine Tripp and her dog, JakeI’d always thought the children’s book publishing industry demanded its community to be based in obvious big cities like New York, Toronto and London so it’s exciting to find out that there are amazing children’s book authors and illustrators living in and around Ottawa, Canada, the hometown of Just One More Book!. In fact, locals including Rachna Gilmore, Ben Hodson and Andree Poulin have all been guests of our show.

Two weeks ago we met another homegrown talent when we were joined for our coffee and recording routine by illustrator Christine Tripp. On this edition of Just One More Book! Ms. Tripp talks about how technology has made it possible for her to work in Ottawa, working with Art Directors and some of the taboos in children’s book illustrations.

Interview with Tim Huff

Monday, November 19, 2007.

Tim HuffAdults face many challenges when helping children understand the world around them. Some choose to pretend that the world is without its struggles and rush their children past the realities of their communities. When it’s difficult to accept the world the way it is as an adult, it’s pretty much impossible to explain it to the next generation, the one that may be able to make things better.

On this edition of Just One More Book, Mark speaks with social worker and children’s book author and illustrator Tim Huff about his book The Cardboard Shack Beneath the Bridge. They talk about the struggles Tim faced in getting his book published and how adults can help children understand homeless people.
